Elmhurst Youth Baseball Divisions

Age Cut-Off: EYB uses the same date at the School District (Aug. 31) in an attempt to allow players to play with and against their school friends. This Cut-Off date is for our In-House Play only . Tournament Teams and Full Time Travel teams use a different date.

T-Ball Division: Incoming and current Kindergarteners, turning 5 and 6 by Aug. 31 st are invited to play in our T-Ball Division. Teams are set up so players can play with their friends as much as possible. This is an introduction to baseball where basic skills are taught and the game is played with a soft baseball. Games are 3 innings, with each player batting once in each inning.

Farm Division (Coaches Pitch): Live pitching is introduced in our Farm Division for current 1 st and 2 nd Graders, turning 7 and 8 by Aug. 31 st . The next steps in baseball are taught at this level and defensive outs are recorded in addition to working on catching and throwing. Games are 5 innings long, with an inning ending when 9 batters come to the plate or 3 outs are recorded by the defensive team. A softer baseball is still used.

Competitive Farm Division: If you feel your child is ready for a more competitive style of baseball, try our Competitive Farm Division for 8 year olds or players who have played one year in our Farm Division.  In this division, players will pitch with a no walk and no stealing rule.  Scores  and standings will be kept and the games are played with a real baseball.  Players are expected to confidently catch and throw a baseball in this Division.

Minor Division: The first steps toward playing a real baseball game occur in the Minor Division. This division is for 3 rd and 4 th graders turning 9 and 10 by Aug. 31 st . The players are drafted in an attempt to make the teams as even as possible and rules are in place to keep the games competitive. EYB hires umpires to officiate these games, which are completely kid pitch. Stealing, Walks and Strikeouts are all part of Minor Division Games. Games are 6 innings long.

Major Division: A few more elements of the game are added in the Major Division. This division is for 5 th and 6 th graders turning 11 and 12 by Aug. 31 st . Once again a draft is used in an attempt to even out the teams through out the division and umpires are hired to officiate the games. Players are introduced to Lead Offs, Pick Offs, Bunting and Stealing Home in this Division and play 7 innings.

Pony Division: We are very proud of our Pony Division and the opportunity it gives our players. EYB has joined the Rosedale Baseball League, which allows our Pony Teams to travel to local towns and play their In-House Pony teams . A great experience for the players and all driving is to neighboring towns, like Villa Park and Bensenville as well as playing home games here in Elmhurst .
